Terms of Service

Last updated

These terms apply when you visit the Just5K website at just5k.com or use the Just5K iOS app. By using either, you agree to what's below. If you don't, please don't use the product — and if anything here is unclear, email us and we'll improve it.

What Just5K is

Just5K is a beginner-friendly running app for your first 5K. It uses walk-run intervals, heart rate awareness, and a plan that adapts to how you're feeling. The website hosts a blog and a download page; the iOS app delivers the actual training experience.

Health and safety — important

Just5K is not medical advice. It is a fitness companion built by software engineers, not by doctors. Before starting any new exercise program — including this one — you should:

  • Talk to a qualified healthcare professional, especially if you have any condition that could be affected by exercise (heart, blood pressure, joints, pregnancy, etc.).
  • Stop if you feel pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, or any symptom that worries you.
  • Use common sense about weather, traffic, and the surfaces you run on.

Running carries inherent risks. By using Just5K, you acknowledge those risks and take responsibility for your own training decisions. Recommendations the app gives you (intensity, duration, rest days, "go easy today" suggestions) are informed by the data it can see, but they are not a replacement for your own judgment or your doctor's advice.

Your account and your data

Today, Just5K does not have user accounts. The website is browseable without signup, and the iOS app stores everything on your device. If we introduce accounts later, this section will be updated to cover authentication, password security, and account deletion before the change ships.

For details on what data the app and site collect, see our Privacy Policy.

How you may use the product

You may use Just5K for personal, non-commercial running. You may not:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the iOS app, except to the limited extent the law explicitly permits.
  • Use the product to harass, defame, or harm other people.
  • Scrape or republish website content in bulk without permission. (Linking to or quoting an article with attribution is fine and encouraged.)
  • Probe, scan, or test the security of our systems without our written consent.

We may suspend access for anyone who violates these rules.

Content and intellectual property

The Just5K name, logo, brand, and the design of the website and app belong to us. The articles on this blog are also our copyrighted work — feel free to link to them and quote short passages with attribution; ask first before republishing or translating in full.

User-generated content does not exist on the site today (no comments, no profiles). If we add a feature where you can post content, we will publish a separate community policy at that time.

Third-party services

The website is hosted on Vercel and uses Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights for performance and traffic measurement. The iOS app reads from Apple HealthKit when you grant permission. We rely on these providers to do their part of the job; their own terms apply when you use their services through us.

Disclaimer of warranties

Just5K is provided "as is" and "as available." We do our best to keep the website online, the app working, and the recommendations sensible — but we don't guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for your specific situation.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Just5K and the people behind it are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including injury, lost time, loss of data, or anything else that follows from your use of the product. If we are found liable for direct damages despite the rest of this section, our total liability will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us in the past twelve months for the relevant service, or (b) USD $100.

Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations; in those places, the limitations apply to the fullest extent the law allows.

Termination

You can stop using Just5K at any time — close the website tab, uninstall the app. We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who violates these terms or for legitimate operational reasons (for example, taking the service offline for maintenance or wind-down). If we shut the service down for good, we will give reasonable notice on the website beforehand.

Changes to these terms

When we change how the product works in a way that affects this agreement, we will update this page and bump the "Last updated" date at the top. The version history is in the public Git repository — every revision is a reviewable commit.

For material changes (such as introducing paid subscriptions or accounts), we will surface the change on the website before it takes effect.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms — or to your use of Just5K — that cannot be resolved by talking to us first will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Spain.

If you are using Just5K as a consumer in the European Union, nothing in this section limits the rights granted to you by the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence, including your right to bring proceedings in that country under Article 18 of the Brussels I Recast Regulation. Those mandatory rights apply on top of these Terms — they are not waived by anything you read here.
